Default IPB case dowel pins, 06 Dyna

Given that the cause of the bad bearings in the early 06 Dynas is the lack of dowel pins from the transmission to the inner primary case, does anyone make a set of dowels that can be inserted into the case, or are their any openings at all for the dowels?
From what I understand HD is no longer doing the "full monty" replacement of the tranny case and inner primary case when the IBP fails.

Thanks,

David

Read THIS thread. I think that you'll find that your case is machined already for the dowels, but that they are not installed. Just pull it off and see. You can get the dowels right at HD.

Anyone have a part number on the dowels?

Awesome! Thanks!

So, why does HD replace the tranny and inner primary cases instead of simply installing the dowels?

I'm not sure, but maybe it depended on the build date of the bikes. I think some have the proper machining for the dowels and the others didn't. Has your bearing been changed out at all, or given any squealling sounds of a failure?

I purchased the bike used. It was built in February 06. Check engine and battery light is intermittently coming on. Did code check: PO562 followed by a p/n (which I will have to double check, for the one I wrote down, "34327-06" is not coming up in any internet searches.) Bike seems to have a pungent oder that I am not accustomed to. All of this leads me to think the stator may be giving problems. Primary is noisy as heck too. So, if I have to crack the primary and deal with the stator, then I am going to do some preventive work and take care of any potential IPB problems if one is not starting already.

Thanks,

David

I would replace all the seals while you're in there.

Some of the cases were made with no dowels. If you were an original owner then you got a letter form the MoCo promosing a IPB replacement free every 15,000 miles. Then another letter stating it was no longer needed. If mine ever goes bad they will be replacing my cases.

I wouldn't remove the inner primary of you don't have to. That is two seperate issues and you can replace the stator and upgrade to the SE compensator without removing the inner primary case. Mudpuddle has an excellent post here with pics on the entire job here:
