The factory seems surprised to find the new retooled rods coming out shorter.
We got a call asking us if we were finding pistons down the hole.
I think some fur is flying over at the factory.
We may see a correction soon. Down the hole is not EPA friendly."

The one mechanic I trust at my dealership doesn't think the re-tq seems to work. He also states that on the bikes where they pulled the primary cover he is seeing what he considers abnormal wear on the auto chain tensioners ( I know a lot of engine builders didn't like the auto tensioners that have been out there in the past). In his own words "Harley is going to sell more replacement primary chains with this setup". If the primary chain is not held under enough tension (chain slap is what it sounds like in my bike) then you might get what could be perceived as chatter.

He does believe that the vibration is worst in this motor due to the stroker crank. The engine just isn't as smooth at speeds as the old twin cams. Most mechanics I spoke with seem to think Harley stuck it to consumers, Instead of just installing the tried and trued 95 inch kit on the old twin cam (which with cam changes makes a strong and reliable engine) they gave us the stroker crank with no bigger bore or pistons. Engine runs rougher with more vibration. Guess they are hoping we all spend the extra money for the 103 upgrade wich does seems to make a more balanced engine. My last twin cam would run at 90 to 95 with clear mirrors, the 2007, forget about seeing whats behind you in the mirrors. Broken motors mounts happen from time to time in the rubber mounts. You are probably going to see a lot of them in these bikes. I don't think you going to even going to get 50,000 miles out of this engine before a rebuild. Poor design, poor quality control, the head in the sand (denial) attitude we are getting from Harley, this isn't good. I be willing to bet before this is over it is going to be a bigger stink for Harley then the cam bearing problem on the first twin cams.

Just think here it is November, most major bike mgazines have their December issues on the self. Still no complete road test of the 96er in Touring bikes in any major publication. Normally Harley would have these bikes being given out to anyone and everyone for testing. Plenty of CVO Touring reviews but no stock 96ers. Makes you wonder.

Pittguy is correct in the fact that H-D is finding short rods, no squish, which causes sparknock amongst other bad things. And someone mentioned longer stroke, which causes rougher running motor . Lean EFI fueling causing heat, all leads to rough running motor. Much taller overall gearing . Through in a primary chain tensioner that cant hold the chain correct and you got a motor thats jerking the primary chain causing the comp. sprocket to try to smooth out things that are happening too fast. I'll bet that comp. sprocket is just a dancing?? I wonder what that would sound like ????????CAN OF MARBLES MAYBE???[:@]
