GLENS, MY ROAD KING CHATTER WAS IN 5TH MAINLY. IT WHINNED AND CHATTERD WHETHER I WAS AT 2000 RPMS OR 3500 RPM IN 5TH GEAR IT JUST CHATTERED FASTER AT THE HIGHER RPM. NOW IT DID CHATTER IN 4TH AND 6TH ALSO, BUT DID NOT SEEM AS BAD AS 5TH.
THE IDS DID HIDE MY PROBLEM ALSO, GLAD I BOUGHT THE IDS BECAUSE I COULD NOT STAND TO RIDE THE THING WITH OUT IT. IF HAD THE BIKE SINCE OCT. 06 AND I JUST GOT 3000 MILES ON IT, GOT THE IDS IN OCT.07 AND I'VE PUT ANOTHER 1200 MILES ON IT SINCE.

My 2007 Road king standard whines in 5th but not to bad at first I thought something was bad wrong. I have 5000 miles on it and have had no problem. The tranny noise is less but it is still present. I think the big thing is to keep the RPMs up. If you shift just a little early it sounds HORRIBLE

Kenny
With the IDS sproctet installed, you have no noise at all, even at low RPM's. What is too early?? I can bring the rpm's down to 2000 in sixth and still have a smooth ride, makes a huge difference in all gears. I cant believe I had to tell my dealer how to fix my bike since he said nothing was wrong and the solution was to "Play the radio louder" Sheesh!!

kenny, the ids will fix it. Harley knows this, that's the reason they sell the thing and probably sold the bike knowing it makes that noise.

Fix is IDS and a full face helmet.

I may be late to the party here on this and not able to read this entire thread but I have not heard where any transmissions have broken or blown up or caused an accident. It is a different sound it appears so we should all sell and buy a BMW or get a lawyer? Well when I ride a knucklethe transmissionsounds different than my 87' Evo did and it sounds different than the wifes Dyna and my 03' Heritage also sounds different.
Well I guess the 07' sounds different due to a gear design change. What a surprise a different sound, no.
Just ride it, didn't HD just extend the warranty to 2 years.

Hiya Knuck!!
well it is not just a noise, In sixth gear going 75 MPH at about 2900 RPM's my Ultra was making such a HUGE Vibration, I thought the bike was going to self destruct. This was especially true when the engine loaded up even a little. I had to stop using sixth gear entirely unless I was on a perfectly flat surface. Then it was just a sound like someone doing a drum roll with two Ballpene hammers. The noise was so deafening that this was the only sound I heard, No engine noise, no exhaust noise. This is not normal.

If you got the 2oo7 touring harley davidson, buy the I.D.S.!!!!!! The clatter will improve 99.9% and the bike ride will improve alot also. Face it Harley pulled one over on us again, so just shell the money out.

Hi all. I bought a 07 Road King Classic bone stock & it's the first Harley I've ever rode or owned so the only thing I can compare it to is the crotch rockets and dirtbikes I've been ridin for the last 25 years or so and I'll say that the whine was there in 5th gear but 15000 miles later it's not there or i just don't notice it anymore. In fact I'll say that Harley hit a grandslam homerun with that bike. It has power, handling, andlooks kick asse!?!? Ilove the bike and I'm sorry I didn't buy one sooner. If I gotthe fluke or something but there's nothing wrong with my trannsmission or anything else for that matter with my bike. I am thinkin bout the stage 1 though thiswinter. I really enjoy this thread though as I just found it this week. I'll see Ya in here soon.
