When I heard the reference to the(8) fasteners I was wondering where they are. The compensator, as we know it, is only secured with (1) bolt, kinda like a harmonic balancer on a car engine crankshaft, which would be the 100 and 140 ft. pounds torque the bulletin is refering to.

Sounds like the comp. re-torque and IDS may be working. I'm willing to buy the IDS, but still fill it should be installed free. If I install the IDS and the comp still talks, I'm getting the sprocket from Evo Ind. I wan't to kill this issue once and for all.

I just got back from Mars, but looking at the Service Manual for my 07 Softail , I can't find a reference to 8 fasteners in or anywhere near the compensator.
There are these however:
Clutch Retainer Bolts (6) 90-110 in-lbs
Clutch hub Nut (1) 70-80 ft-lbs
Compensating Sprocket bolt 155-165 ft-lbPrimary Chain Tensioner Fasteners (2) 21-24 ft-lbs
Primary Chaincase Sealing Fasteners (5) 25-27 ft-lbs
Primary Cover Fasteners (13) 108-120 in-lbs
Transmission Lockplate Screws (2) 84-108 in-lbs
Transmission Sprocket Nut (1) 100 ft-lbs

Where are these 8 fasteners of which you speak?

Was caught off guard myself on that one.

FX4, Please let us know how it works out for you. I'm still on the fence on this one, but I am kind of excited about it. Imagine owning a bike that you could enjoy riding. Wow!What a concept.
Will do - and I feel the same way. The bike is so close to being perfect for me and yet so annoying every time I ride it.

I'm going to order the IDS on payday - done told the wife. Tired of messing around and if that don't work I'm going to replace the comp. with a sprocket. Want it fixed and move on.Ready to get Rineharts, T-Max and Big Sucker and enjoy the riding. Such a nice bike and want to put the miles on her. Maybe someday HD will come through and give us credit. You know though, I've always read reviews about vehicles and such and always listened and made the best judgement call, but have never been part of the 1st reviews "or the test dummy I should say". This time I am. I could just kick myself in the butt for not waiting. "Once bitten, twice shy". But you know, I'm never going to get rid of this bike. It kinda reminds me of that teenage kid that gives you grief but you continue to love them regardless.

I have been reading alot on this issue both on this forum and others. My question is this.......Have there been any documented/verifiable 6-speed transmission failures? I have searched and searched but have yet to find anything. Also, in reading it seems that later '07's and especially'08's do not have this problem as much. Has anyone gathered the data to support thatearlier production trannys could be more susceptible to this than later production. Iwould be curious to see if there is any correlation.

The Isolated Drive System (IDS)is a modifaction that replaces the solid-mounted rear wheel pulley with a rubber mounted version. Anyone who is familiar with Japanese motorcycles would recognize it. Harley Davidson makes the kit ......... cost(?) ............... about $500, installed.

A better question would be ........................ does it WORK(?)...........or is it good money spent after bad. That being said, the reviews sound promising. The P/N is listed in a previous string. What is needed now is for an HONEST evaluation of this so-called, "FIX"!!
