Go ahead and vent, like many others and I, weknow how you feel. I did a 500 mile trip today and as usual, this Ultra Clatter drove me nuts with the clatter, and the vibrationthat itproduces. Wouldn't you think when HD tested these things, that the first thing they would have discovered was this God awful noise and vibration, and would have known this was going to be trouble for the customers.

Oh! they test them! They run them 24/7 every day of the year except holidays 24 hours a day they test run them. The R & D facility is at the Talladega 500 raceway! They have a Harley Facilityadjacent to the Race Track grounds, and use the speedway when nothing is going on with Nascar. The infield has the bumptrack for suspension and much more!I just don't understandwhy they let this get thru, exceptfor the fact that the big shots in companysusually never listen to the little shots. They probablylistened to the test riders about as much as the dealers and customer service are listening to us. Unless they brought one inbroken and notrunning they weren't concerned. Its all about money! Its always all about money! One more thing The R &Dtest ridersare always required to wearthe best full face helments available.

The picture shows a 30 tooth on a 07. Donny must have been wrong about the fit. I dont think 30 would be too low. Your dropping 4 teeth but your getting 06 (1.44 to 1 ) primary gearing that worked. Both 06 and 07 have 1-1 ratio in the top gear, right? So is the secondary belt pullys the same?My 2000 has 32-70. I'm thinking some of these new ones got 32-66 or somthing. Anyway I'd pop for a 30 tooth in a heartbeat,I dont think it would be too low at all. After all this is a 96 incher and we all have been running bigbore 95 inchers with this gearing for years.

In the pic with the 30 tooh gear looks like you do not use the comp spring.Talk abot hammering it would be like riding a sportster because they have no comp spring. Like i said in earlier post tryingto get my bike to be smooth and quit also. Thanks, Jeff

Way different gearing on the 07s in primary and rear pulleys.
34/46 primary, 66 rear, don't remember tranny sprocket.
No comparison.

Maybe Baker will help us out andcome up with the proper sprocket - After all, they bailed HD out of the gear whine issue. Seems they know more about gears than HD does.
From Donny Petersen's Techline article in July American Iron:

Conclusion
Next issue we'll continue to explore the H-D six-speed transmission in more detail, give Harley-Davidson's response to complaints, and discuss fixes offered by various manufacturers like BAKER Drivetrain.

There is noise. We will give the reasons. We will give the fix.

I think Donny is leaning toward the whine soundthese 07 have.Yes Bakers kit will cure this but why doesntDonny go after the clattering sound? This is the major number one complaint.Heres your chance for all of you that have posted here.Fill his mailbox this week. sales@heavydutycycles.com <sales@heavydutycycles.com>

Went to a rally today at andHD dealer, and I heardmany 07 ownerscomplaining about the clatter noise, and how HD was in denial about the whole thing. Also, most already suspected that the clatter was not associated with the 5th. gear whine. In fact most said the whine didn't bother them. There were at least 250 bikes there, I'm sure people got an ear full about the 07 HD's, I know I gave my share of info about the 07' Ultra's. Ton's of new 07 bikes were there on display and NONE got a new home. Also, the service manager said "this clatter thing is driving him crazy, and wished HD would step up and be counted".

Installed my Thundermax fuel injection system today, sure smoothed things out, a little fat at low rpms due to the stock air cleaner at the moment. Let it pull down to 60mph in 6th, 2000rpm, it just idles along without all the racket. Hmmm, will ride it more and see what it does, the unit sure makes it a smoother machine, even at the higher revs.

So long, farewell and goodbye. I traded my '07 FLHT Clatter Wagon today. I no longer have clatter. I no longer have whine. I will take a some time off from big twin HD. Maybe return in a few years if and when HD builds quality bikes again. Good luck to everyone else with one of these '07's HD refuses to fix the transmission problem.
