Oil on Clutch?

Oil on Clutch?
Hi, I replaced the primary gasket and refilled the primary with 60w on my 1968 ironhead. Not very long after that I noticed the clutch slipping which has gotten worse[:@].
I read an article in American Iron where an old timer talked about getting oil on the dry clutchs of the old bikes. He said that they would only put 6ozs in the primary so it would not spash onto the clutches.
I have ordered the plates and will replace them.
Should I completely refilled the primary or just use 6oz?

RE: Oil on Clutch?
I have no personal experience on this type primary setup, but have read where you should set bike straight up so that you can get a true reading, then fill it till the oil just covers the primary chain. Also I believe that, that clutch type has a shroud around clutch basket to cut the amount of oil gettting on the plates.
