My wifes 02 883 sporty when pulling out hard jerks and then feels like it engages first gear again.My question is do you think it is a first gear problem or the clutch?It doesn't do it all the time and no matter what after riding season is over it will need fixed.It has about 15K on the clock.Is servicing a 02 the same(basically)as an 06?I have an 06 service manual and can follow it if they are about the same internally.

 

First, get the proper manual.
Second, check the clutch adjustment (clutch and lever)
Third, check the primary chain adjustment. That's what it sounds like to me.
