Mine makes a hard clunk too,

I think its normal.

You will find that the harley sounds like it will fall apart compared to the metrics but it is all normal and part of the experience.

Yeah, tell me about it, hehehe... when I sitting at a light, I can hear all sorts of stuff moving in the engine. It all sounds like loose parts flying around! But obviously, at 1100+ miles in and no problems, that just ain't the case!

Cheers!

I hear that from time to time on my bike also - To me it sounds like a trash can is rolling around in there but the thing has close to 2K on it and it keeps getting better and better - Here's to the experience!

I found that when I replaced all the fluids with Syn3 the shifting got louder and clunkier. I notice that when the bike is cold, it shifts like butter. Just had all my fluids replaced with Amsoil today. Gear lube in the tranny. Supposed to shift better and give the tranny much longer life. You will be hard pressed find anyone, anywhere, that is a real biker, that will tell you to use Syn3. I've decided to take my head out of the sand finally and go with superior lubrication. I'll find out tomorrow how it feels, but for now I can tell you that down in my gut I have a wonderful feeling about giving my baby Amsoil

Pig Iron, Great bile and much greater wife. Understand your concern, but sounds normal for Harley-land. Get her up to 500 miles and then ride her like you stole her. If anythings amiss, it will get worse by the 1000 mile checkup and that's what the warranty is for. Keep track of all your questions/concerns, call your dealer now and then have them written down for your 1000 mile check up. Harley's are just different from Metrids. A year or two from now, you'll get on a metric and think, man, this sounds/feels wierd. Wonder if it's okay?
Nothing wrong with questions like yours though. That's why we all band together to be there to explain things to each other. Happy trails, Art

Can't wait to hear the MOCO 's reasoning about the syn 3 in the trans and why the transmissions are going south. Heard of a few on another site gone bad with not a lot of miles on them running syn 3 in them. The first thing I did when I brought the new one home was drain the syn 3 and put in redline. Best move I've made yet.
Went to Mobil 1 instead of the syn 3 in the engine and I swear it's cooler and quieter, lost a few degreese on the oil temp gauge.

Engine Mobil 1
Trans Redline SP Heavy
Primary HD primary oil
03 SE Deuce

Very happy, better than the syn 3
I have heard that the syn 3 is not a full synthetic, that it starts off as a non synthetic base stock and is modified, anybody else hear this?

TCSTD

Check out the oil section in the gen. tech. Skip has some good info, and the syn. 3 is not a true synthetic.

Thanks for that info, i'll have to take a look see there. Don't like the syn 3 in my ride even thou it comes with it in all 3 holes, it only stayed there till I got it home ( 03 SE Deuce), will stay with the mobil 1 and I forgot where I read about it not being a full synthetic.
I am a hard sell on anything but I can say that I honestly see a difference in the motor with the mobil 1 V Twin oil.

I run Amsoil in the engine and primary 20/50 and Amsoil severe gear oil 75/90 in the tranny. In my book you can't go wrong with 100% synthetic, especially for an air cooled motor, IMHO.

Same for me but I still have the clunk. You can get really loud pipes. You will still have the clunk but you just won't here it.
