I was riding with my buddy yesterday and he has a deep groove in his rear drive belt on the inside of the belt (on outside of the belt towards the rear wheel). I was reading my Service manual and I would like to change the belt for him to save him some cash. First off the manual states I need to remove the swing arm and outer primary. My question is this difficult to do with the manual. Also what would cause the groove in the belt? I was thinking maybe a screw backed out and was touching the belt???? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

It's not "too" difficult. You will need some special tools that you can fab up like a locking bar to lock the sprockets and a big honking socket, etc. HERE is a good pictorial on how Dermott (harley hog) did his.
