Pardon my lack of knowledge, but I have a question about a rubber hose on my Dyna that is not connected to anything. I searched the repair manual for something about it and didn't find anything. Aft of the rear jug, there is a chrome cover on top of the transmission. There is a fitting in that cover with a "U" shaped 5/16 subber hose attached. The other end of that hose isn't connected to anything. Is it just a vent and overflow? (Rare these days to find a hose vented to atmosphere that isn't connected to a cannister or air cleaner.)

 

I believe what your seeing is the vent hose for the trans.

 

According to the mechanic I finally got to talk to. That is the vent to the transmission. If you are running gear oil you might get a whiff of it when you start or stop the engine.
