Default Primary Bearing Race....34091-06 or -08

I just took my primary apart on my '07 Ultra and found the Inner Primary Bearing Race was toast!! I see the race has a number stamped on it showing it's the 34091-06 number. I have heard about the 34091-08 race and wondering what the difference is, if any and what others have done for a replacement. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

p.s I am replacing both the bearing and race and am interested in possible non-Harley parts if deemed superior.

Hi ,I was wandering If this was the big whine on the 07's as I had an 07 Ultra Classic that just got louder till I traded for an 08 an solved the problem . the 08 is a perfect bike with no issues . the 08 does 51 mpg with a little cruising an the 07 would omly do 38 mpg with a smaller tank . I hope someone resolves the whinning problems on the 07's . I felt like it was a inferior bearing !! just my thoughts .. Duane ,Blue 08 Ultra Classic # 617849 Born 08-02-07

Just went through it & used Harley parts. Make sure that when you put it together that the seal clip ring doesn't block the lube hole in the case. I have a feeling that that may be the problem with these bearings.. no lube if the clip ring isn't properly installed. mine wasn't. The new one is.

Good to know about the snap ring placement. I had checked it when I took it apart and it looked good. I know this bearing/race combo in the Dyna's was a problem but was told by several shop people that the problem in the Electra's is rare. Usual suspect they say is belt tightness. Mine didn't make a whine but a low level grinding sound. I had suspected it was the inner primary bearing/race by when it would make the noise. If the -08 version is the same race but improved I would think that would be the way to go but the parts people say there is nothing in their catalogs that show the -06 version has been superceded by the -08 version. Seems interesting the first 5 numbers are the same but the last 2 are not. Things that make you go Hmmmmm.........

The -08 is slightly taller than the -06 race. The ID and OD are the same though. Believe it has to do with the 06 Dyna failures and the former 15k change out procedure.

the 2-digits after the - usually indicate the model year of the bike it applies to....A -06 and a -08 may very well be the same part....The only way to be sure is to have both and match them up visually...

H-D has never been a company to change parts very often....It keeps production costs down and makes parts availability plentiful!

I believe that the 08 mainshaft changed with the inner race (-08). Check the 06 and 08 part #'s.

I just finished the primary the other day. I found a indy shop that has seen many of these bikes come through with the inner primary race toast. His Answer!! He replaces everything with the 34091-85 part. Says the newer ones are too soft and they tend to destroy themselves. He hasn't had one fail since. Figured it was worth a try. Fits like it grew there.

Found this some time ago. Too late for you now but I might consider it when the time comes, unless there's something wrong with it I don't know.
