Default Shifter Shaft oil seal (behind inner pri)

I guess this should have been posted here instead.

What is the trick to getting this seal out? do you have to disassemble the transmission to get the shifter shaft out and then press the seal out from the inside? I'm sure hoping not. I've never done one of these before so I'd like to hear from some folk before I really screw this job up.

Any tips from those that have been here before would be much appreciated. Here is a blurry pic of what I'm speaking of

There is a snap ring on the shaft, remove it, remove the washer, and then you see the seal. I remember reading or seeing something about using a self tapping screw(s) in the old seal and pull it out.

Drill a 1/16 " hole in the face. Find a screw and screw it and then yank on the mf with a vise grip . It will come out. There is a two lip seal that's superiour to the oem seal. Can't remember where I saw it but somebody will have a part# here. Worst case, a search will bring it up eventually.

Don`t reuse the circlip, and get an extra cirlip, the little buggers can disappear on you...

Thank you guys! I appreciate it.

I was tempted to try the "screw in the seal" approach but didnt want to be a hero.
I'd like to find that superior seal b/c the one the dealer gave me doesnt look like much.

Thanks again

Be careful not to damage the shaft.

After replacing this shifter shaft seal and also the jack shaft, main output shaft seals, oring around the stator, out primary gasket and even the little seal at the end of the jack shaft bolt. I still have a small leak.
No doubt that it slowed down but when the bike is hot it will still drip until it gets cool.

Could it be the jack shaft itself???? any suggestions?

It could be the shift shaft if it is nicked or worn.Easy to tell if it's leaking.

You didn`t mention the oil seal on the inner primary cover that seals the mainshaft, the spacer behind the pulley or the quad seal...Did you replace them?
