I switched my tranny to severe gear 75w140??? Not sure what the big hype is? i can't tell any difference...Or maybe time will tell.
Depends what you were trying to solve. If a mechanical device is screwed , no oil will fix it. The severer gear 75/140 has ep additives, however there isn't enough load on a Harley gearbox to make them work, so it's waisted money. The slightly heavier viscosity will give a bit more cushion, but if the trans is good you likely won't notice. It may give slightly less gear whine in fifth but that's about it. If the trans is bad, it will remain that way. Some of the claims are rediculous, with better shifting etc. The effects on shifting is more primary and clutch related than any minimal force needed to move shifting components in the trans. I've tried 3 different oils myself. The factory fill, 70/90 and 75/140 and in the end there was no detectable difference in sound and shifting. If I put Shockproof Heavy in it, would I be able to tell? Not likely . It all makes for great debate, which I'm sure will follow this post.
