I bought a custom bike this week, knowing the clutch did not work. I tore into it and found the clutch release rod stuck. I am not sure how to get it out. I pulled the clutch plates and springs and I pulled the clutch cable cover I am assuming the rod should slide out? Here are a couple of pics. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Use a length of round stock from the hardware store and tap it out from the clutch side toward the release cover side.

If the oil slinger/bearing support (part screwdriver is pointing to) is not stuck it should pull out with no effort otherwise you will have to tap it out.

Also try removing the push rod first with a small diameter telescoping magnet from the clutch side.

I got it out, it was broke I attached a pic. any idea why it would break? The guy who owned the bike said the clutch was always hard to pull. also any idea where to pick up parts for a custom. the trans has no markings so I am not sure who even makes it. The guy said it was a baker but I can not find there name on it anywhere. Thanks for the help,

 

That doesn't appear to be broken. It is usually a three piece set. It consist of the short piece which is the oil slinger and there should be a thrust bearing on the outside of the slinger held in place with a "C" clip, then the long through rod and finally on the clutch the adjusting screw with a lock nut.

It probably got nuked from improper adjustment. Did the TO bearing get nuked also? If so check the release mech for damage. The end of the adjuster screw on the clutch side is probably smoked.

Replace everything. Check when re-installing that parts float freely inside mainshaft.

Adjust per the manual procedure, back off the cable adjust all the way, then set screw on clutch side, then adjust cable slack to 1/16 ~1/8"

 

Yea it wiped out the bearing. I am going to get everything, I am also going to replace the clutch plates, it looks like the clutch was dumped alot the splines on the discs are worn. any suggestions on clutches? It has a 113 ci motor. I need a good set. I really appreciate the info. Never had a custom built bike before I am used to my street glide where i know where to get the parts,

its not stock plates Here is a pic of the plate and disc, Any idea on what IT is I have no idea what to order. Nothing stamped on any of it. Thanks for all the help

 

It looks like a BDL nine spring clutch.

 

BDL friction and steel plates here. Best to make and eyeball comparison before buying.
