Default primary plate screws

I just got a 2002 super glide . I think the screws on the cover to check and fill the primary lube the round one , I can't get the screws out the heads is starting to strip. Can I take the whole primary cover off by removing just the foot peg and gear shifter lever and the bolts around the primary cover and leave the round one on . then try to get the screws out with the whole cover off? what tool do I use for the screws is that a allan head or or torx head and what size a T25 thanks Frankster 69

Stock screws are torx T-27. Not T-25! The T-25 bit will strip the heads out. Not all sets of Torx bits come with a T-27, so you might have to pick one up separately.

As he said. You cannot remove the outer primary with the inspection plate (oval) still on, but you can with the derby cover (round) still attached.

But that's a big hassle, and more expense than you need. For those that are stripped out, just drill the head of the screw off and replace it. Faster, cheaper, and easier. Even if you removed the outer primary, you'de still have to drill out the screw heads.

In the future, use a little antiseize under the screw head and an inch/pound torque wrench for installation. If I remember correctly the holes are not blind, so you need some thread sealant (teflon or silicone) on the threads themselves to prevent oil leaks. Seem like that's what I did on my Evo. Not sure about the TC.

No teflon the threads, anti-seize only, torque to 108 in/lbs.

After you're done drilling them out run up to Home Depot and get some stainless allens. Just did mine spent less than $4, alot cheper than the dealer.

I 2nd Shepster....whenever I get a torx nut off, I replace it with a SS allen nut if possible.

Cheap prevention from a major headache.
