Default Dropped nut in Tranny--HELP!!

Dropped the starter cable nut down into the trans while I had the trans top cover out. I thought at first that I could see it so I sent a magnet down there but can't seem to locate it. I turned the trans slowly by the primary compensating nut and I think I can hear it.

Now I think my next step is remove my oil pan. Can you see up into the trans from under the pan? The manual says hoist bike by the crossmember and remove rear wheel. I'm in my garage and this is not an option. Has anyone removed an oil pan from a EGS? How did you do it? I only have a sears jack.

Would it be easier to pull the trans gearset? I've never dived into the trans before so I'm in new territory.

Can someone help with suggestions?

Removing the oil pan will net you nada, nil, zip.....

If you cannot retrieve it with a flexible magnetic pick-up tool, you will need to remove the gear set from the housing....

just a shot:
if transmission is dry..
what about a big wet/dry vacuum and placement of taped thin tube on vacuum end.
maybe some oil or fuel hose on end of vacuum and poke into case from top.

How are ya at fishing ??

I would try a piece of bailing wire & tied on a flat magnet shaped like a flat washer & go fishing..

Patience is required here tho..

Good luck.

You probably messed up by rolling the engine over, it probably worked it in further. I would pull the gear set or keep fishing with the magnet. Good luck to you.

+1 on the flexible magnet pick-up tool. I have three different magnetic tools and grabbers. every time I work on my boat I drop something.
My local rental has a small flexible camera people can rent. it is like a 1/4 in diameter maybe you could snake it around and see the nut.

Eventually it may move and cause problems.

MANY years ago the clutch cable on my Triumph snapped at the ball end.

Replaced cable and thought that was it. Around 3,000 miles later heard a ticking/clanking noise in tranny.

During the repair the tech found the a sheared 5th gear tooth and the ball end of the clutch cable.

Must have sat at the bottom moved.

Better to remove the nut now.
