Rebuilding 68 FLH..primary/clutch suggestions
I have a 68 FLH that I'm finally getting ready to get together. I'm looking for suggestions for primary chain/belt and clutch setups.
I have an empty primary case right now and need everything to fill it.
Not necessarily looking for a stock setup and not opposed to an open primary.
The engine is slightly modded: 10:1 - Andrews G cam - Heads will be converted to unleaded fuel.
Thanks

Yes, there are belt drives for electric start. The only difference between kick start and kick/electric start belt drives is that the clutch shell has a ring gear on it for the electric start capability.
If you run a belt drive enclosed, be sure to vent the primary to get airflow through there. Belt drives generate heat that will damage the drive if it doesn't get cooling air flowing over it.
There are aftermarket outer primary covers that are vented to accomplish this or you can use standoffs for your inspection cover and derby cover to allow air in there.
Lots of guys use primary belt drives and love 'em.
I have not had good luck with belt drives and prefer chain drive for my primary.
Presently, I am running a chain drive with a Hayden M-6 chain tensioner and a Barnett Scorpion clutch with the primary set up separated from the engine oiling system like the newer HD's. I am running Type F ATF in the primary for keeping things lubed in there.
Oh yeah, if you do go with an enclosed belt drive, be sure to use a top quality sealed bearing for your transmission shaft support in the inner primary.
