loose transmission sprocket
#11
One other thought I didn't seen mentioned previously, It is possible the main gear bearing is worn out causing you drive belt sprocket to rub against the transmission case, Look for signs of rubbing marks on the transmission case & if they are present I would replace the main shaft bearing.

make sure you inspect the splines on the shaft that comes out of the trans. if they are wore even just alittle you better change that too. if you don't, you will go through another sprocket shortly. that shaft is 5th gear. they're not cheep to change but do it right or you'll continue to have problems. if the splines look good then leave it in there.
