5 speed-shifting problem
I have a 1988 FXRS...I recently rebuilt the entire transmission..Jims clean-cut gears and shafts, also new shifter forks and shaft..everything in the primary..and I mean EVERYTHING is brand new...the problem I have is when i shift down into 1st and go to shift into second its hard to get out..like its stuck...pull in the clutch..try it again or so and it goes in...only in 1st...no problems downshifting in any gear...occasionally from 2nd to 3rd its like there's no gear than try shifting..it will go in..no noises or grinds or clunks...possible linkage adj.there?...it seems to only do this when its cold...just starting up and taking off...I have a Barnett kevlar clutch, the cable is pretty new also,up on the lift shift thru the gears by hand no problems...I dont suspect any problems with the gears..it did this before I did the rebuild...had to replace the shifter shaft spring(internal)..I noticed it then...I do have alot of "slop" in the clutch lever control...the housing is just worn...I'm suspecting this could be either a clutch/trans adjustment...any suggestions would be appreciated..its starting to annoy me.
