Default Primary drain plug

My primary drain plug is leaking. I tighten it to specs but now it leaks. I don't see anything wrong with the plug. Has anyone ever put thread sealer on it ? Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks

All tapered plugs need sealant to work 100% if that 's what you have. Without it you end up tightening more and more until you screw things up and crack the casting around the hole , where as with a good sealant snug is all you need. Q tip the inside threads with thinner and the plug prior to sealant use. I like the Loctite white paste with teflon. I believe it # 565. It will actually slightly lock the plug in place as a bonus too.

I use teflon tape. I take a small strip, and fold it in half lenght wise... so it doesn't go up into the primary area.
I know people say not to do this cuz it will go inside, but it seems to work OK for me... I'm comfortable with it since I am thinning down the strip

Late models use an o ring with straight thread. Earlier ones used a pipe thread (tapered) and there's no provision for an o ring on these as they seal through thread compression.

Use white teflon and it should be fine. If still leaking it may have a hairline crack.

The tech on Expert Village says to change the plug when you change the primary fluid. I didn't, but if it started to leak I would.
