Overfilled primary could&nbsp\\;cause clutch slip. Over filled trans may puke it out the vent. Why, you know someone who did this?

Ron,

No, not me. Just wondered what the result would be. Seems that on my bike that the low end of the 'fill' amount is the right amount for both primary and transmission.

Won't hurt the trans to top it up to the full mark. I do.

Quite the opposite.....

Primary: CLutch will drag due to excess fluid.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Could cause seal(s) to leak.&nbsp\\; Will also make the bike difficult to get into neutral and possibly difficult to shift at low speeds.

Trans: Pobably just blow it out the vent, but could damage the 5th gear seal, behind the output bearing, behind the front sprocket.

I asked this question for myself since the bike I have is full when on the low side (20 oz.) of the fill range for bot the primary and transmission (bike upright). I fill the primary to the bottom of the diaphragm spring and the transmission to just below the 'full' mark on the dipstick. I've heard (but don't do) the 'just add 1 qt.' to the primary. That would definitely cause clutch slip as the plates would be dragging in oil.

I fill the primary on my bike to the bottom of the spring. No problems.
The tranny is to the full mark with Redline "Heavy".The only problem with tranny is i'm going to be replacing the shift shaft seal for the second time with almost 28000 miles.

Yes it will drag as you say, but oil cannot be squeezed out fast enough from the plates if overfilled and it will slip as well.
