Primary chain adjustment

RE: Primary chain adjustment
You should be able to loosen the adjustment nut a pretty good distance with a socket wrench and lift the plate by lifting up on the nut. You only need to get a finger under it to hold it in place while you tighten the nut with the wrench. Dealer told me 3/8 inch play in a cold engine for my 03 Road King Custom. So easy, a tileman can do it (which I did yesterday).
The chain had about an inch of play when I started and there was some banging around there at low speeds, like lugging the motor.

RE: Primary chain adjustment
What I did was loosen the bolt on the adjustment bracket used a stiff flat bar ( actually a File ) \\; \\; 1\\8 inch thick and lifted on the adjuster bolt, took my other hand and put 1 finger up the hole and felt the play in the chain, lift the adjusting bolt with your flat bar until it feels right, mine has about \\;1/2 inch movement that should be ok. Like the book says \\; too tight is as bad as too loose. Its easy......
