Running your drive belt tight will cause the seal to leak. Adjust the belt according to specs and your seals will last longre. Some bike need to have rider weight on yhem so you may need a friend to help.

They did tighten the belt during the service per my request because it was chirping.....it should still have been done to spec's however I need to check it myself because I am still having a chirping belt problem also

RE: Primary Leak?
I have the same problem at 18,000 miles. What I learned is this
If you look under the primary as where the drain is you will most likely find where your leak is. It will probably be close to the drain plug on the seam as where the primary and engine come together.
Syn. oil will take a lot more heat but is much thinner. Your leak will get worse as time goes on.
Mine started with a drop and now it is much much more. The gasket is under warranty so let them fix it.
By the way it only holds 38 oz. so ther isn't much there.
My dealer is very honest about things and is great to take care of problems. The Mech. there explained this to me and said he has done many with this problem.
I will be getting away from syn. 3 and going to something different. I seen a report (check do it yourself-oil related) as where the syn. 3 is a bad choice for the transmission.
hope this helps.

RE: Primary Leak?
Nightmoves,
Check the stator cable where it comes out of the case on the left side of the motor. \\; Mine was leaking from there and I had to have the entire stator assembly replaced under warranty (thank goodness). \\; The cable and grommet are one piece and the cable is hardwired to the stator so that it has to be replaced as an assembly. \\; Hope yours isn't leaking there but it is another thing to check. \\; Good luck.

Update on primalry leak/belt chirp
Got the service manual and tools.....verified primary was leaking by using UV.....changed out inner primary seal (it was the problem) and also jackshaft seal while I was in there.
Put it back together and no leaks. I decided against putting harley synthetic back in it and ran the regular +. No leaks in last 400 miles since I fixed it. Also, adjusted belt a little bit looser than harley spec's and no more chirping.
Thanks everyone for all of your advice!!
