RE: small clunk when releasing the clutch
Hello. I have a 2008 Ultra and have the very same clunk. Its much worse when cold and first starting out. At first I thought it was the tensioner hitting the primary housing. Well it is not that. I went to the Americade at lake george June 2008, and talked to a HD tech who was responsible for the Demo bikes. he spent the time and opened up the Touring manual and went to the primary breakdown page. he showed me the the cam assembly within the clutch assembly and that very cam takes the initial force of engagment and produces that clunk. It removes much of the force on the primary chain and tranny gears.
\\;I had been starting my bike in 1st gear so not to have that terrible clunk at first clutch engagment. Well it seems Harley designed this to increase life of the driveline.
\\;I hope my comments are of some help. Its a normal sound to hear that clunk!
