Default Transmission leak

The 1998 FLHTCUI has started leaking behind the pulley. It was leaking so badly that it was marking its territory after a ride.

Anyways, as I was tearing into it....I noticed.....

The nut holding the pulley backed off somewhat....it was finger tight.
A very small looking spacer is loose on the shaft....I don't think it is suppose to be loose.
The seal is currently removed....

I have decided to replace the seal, spacer, and O-ring. However, how do I remove the spacer located where the seal is? Can it be done without the special tool?

Anyways, I could use some advise....

the only reason i see it being loose is the same reason its like that on dirtbikes. the sprocket floats on the shaft to detuor derailment. but i think thats only for chain setup but id check around (as you are doing) and see if this is soo, my guess is your right it should be tight, as for the other spacer you speak of me know no?? sorry [>:]

5th gear main shaft oil seal was the culprit....it was loose. I've replaced it now and have everything bolted back together. Not leaking a drop now...hope it is fixed now.
