Could you be more specific? There are many types of belt primaries. 1.5", 2", 3", 4", 5", 6" etc... Enclosed, Open...

And open belt drive is exposed. Not sure that I have seen a 1.5" open lately. To your original question, I haven't seen many have good luck with the 1.5" belts. They tend to have a short life span and if you like to get on it from time to time, I wouldn't go with it. IMO The open 3" belt is the smallest I would go with and depend on. I run one on my bike and literally beat the crap out of it. I have never had a belt failure with the 3". The 1.5 and 2" belts are usually run enclosed and even with venting, I think the heat gets to them too much. They have made improvements to the belts over the years but I always remember anyone with a 1.5" or 2" belt carrying a spare belt with them for when it fails.

BTM, the bike you see in my avatar uses a 3" belt and I have floorboards.... but it is a different animal altogether.

i ran into a man with a superglide and a 125 S&S with the 1.5 inch inclosed belt, had the vent covers on the cover, says he loves it, no problems. guess if it will stand up to a 125 S&S in the arizona heat it works.

Belt drives look cool - especially open but chains are more dependable and safer (IMO). A friends 3" belt broke on the freeway (jockey shift, foot clutch with forward controls). You should have seen the welt on his leg. OMG!
