Transmission drain nut

Transmission drain nut
I recently change my transmission oi and when I tighten the drain nut back on, I think I overtighten it to about 15ft/lb... Found out later from the manual that it should be only around 2 ft/lb.
My question is... How bad is this? Did I do any damage? What should I do now? Should I unscrew and tighten to 2 ft/lb?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Transmission drain nut
Before you do anything, you might get a new o-ring from the Harley shop. The original one could have been damaged when you made it up and loosening it might cause the transmission to seep a bit. It will be a pain in the rear as you'll have to drain the transmission again and refill it but it might be worth it. Guess you could try to loosen it a bit and see what happens.

Doesn't sound grossly overtightened, just crack it loose and re torque it otherwise when it gets hot, it may be a different story. No big deal here, don't loose any sleep over it.

While I was getting new o-ring, Harley dealer sold me one of those loctite 565.
He told me to put that on all 3 drain nuts during oil changes.
Anyone use Loctite 565? Should I use it?
Thanks!

I am trying to decide if I should use the loctite 565 on oil drain bolts as well. If you use them how difficult is it to remove them? Then do you have a hard time cleaning the threads to re-install? [sm=smiley25.gif] KB
