Besides the look, what are the advantages of a open primary?

NO advantage I know of other than the looks.

1. they are noisy (whine)
2. they are prone to failure (rock cuts the belt, your at the side of the road )
3. they are wider than stock (you leave lots of aluminum around for others
4. they are expensive

As soon as they are available for the 2000+ bikes, I want one...

1. They are lighter.
2. No fluids.
3. No adjustment needed
4. Better clutches
Disadvantages
1. They are noisy
2. Clutches wear faster
3. Some are wider then stock w/cover
4. Should invest in covers (save pants, boot heals, keep out rocks)
