Have 01 Deuce and recently when riding noticed when I let up on throttle, I get a screeching sound. When taking off or cruising the sound is not there.It doesn't sound like metal to metal and sounds like it's near the front part of the bike but I know that could be deceiving. I'm guessing it might be the belt. Anybody have this problem before or know what it might be?

Sounds like the belt, although that's usually more of a chirp. Try dragging a block of paraffin along the edges of the belt to lubricate it.

 

Sounds like one of 2 things.
1. Drive belt
2. Compensator nut

I'd check the belt first. I took my bike in to get a new rear tire and noticed the chirping sound when decelerating. Found the belt too tight. Bought the belt tensioning tool and fixed it myself. I quit letting other people work on my bikes because I had had several problems similar to this. I've found the price of the tools far outweighs the cost of labor at the dealership. If you want it done right, diy.

funny... i get a screeching noise when i twist the throttle hard.. comes from the back...and sometimes smoke comes from beneath the rear fender
