Primary Drain Plug

Primary Drain Plug
When I change my primary oil and put the plug back inthe drain plug goes in so far it seems like it is going to go all the way through to the inside and it still seeps a little. Is there any way to remedy this problem? Can it be drilled and taped for a bigger plug or will I eventually have to replace the cover? Thanks for any info. Lou

RE: Primary Drain Plug
I saw a video on changing fluids and they suggested using a new primary drain plug after each removal.
I didn't changemy primary drainplug just put some thread sealant on it.
My 2005 Softail service manual states to put a new O ring on the primary drain plug. Mine does not use an O ring.
I didn't bother putting sealant, on the oil and tranny drain plugs, just new O rings.

RE: Primary Drain Plug
You can install a reducer bushing with blue loctite .Red is overkill for this.Get a steel one and not brass. These things are dirt cheap so buy a couple of them and use the one that fits the primary hole the best as they do vary somewhat in thread dia.Install a new smaller drain plug into it also of steel . It will drain a little slower but the thread problem is now fixed and being steel now it will live almost forever. Use a thread sealant on each change. Pipe threads only need to be snug, not reefed on in a static system like the primary.
