No belt guards?

No belt guards?
I have always chosen not to use belt guards on my bikes (upper and lower.) I like to be able see the belt and pully or anything else that may be going on back there. I ran across a guy at a run awhile backwho thought I was crazy for doing that. I have never had a problem in thousands of miles, although I have worried about a rock or other debris getting between the lower portion of the belt and rear pully.
What do you guys think. Am I a fool?

RE: No belt guards?
I have replaced many a belt in the our shop for rocks that have damaged the belt with all the guards in place. We are planning a free clinic on general maintenance . Belt life is one thing that will be covered. Cleaning the belt and pulleys will largely extend belt life. The grime and oil together work at wearing the belt down. Up to you for looks I think they look better off.
