changing out rear sprocket to 61T
Hello all,
On my 94 FXSTC I have the stock rear sprocket with 70 T. Note: the Trany sprocket is 32T. This gives a ratio of 3.15 engine rev per wheel turn.
Harley used a 61T rear pulley on non domestic bikes, giving a ratio of 2.94 revs per wheel turn. I am planning on replacing the 70 T with the 61 T to get better cruising speed at lower RPM's.
I know I will be giving up a little on low end acceleration.
Has anybody done something similar to this or have any suggestions.
Also I think that my 128 T belt will still work, but does anybody know for sure.
Thanks,
Jon

RE: changing out rear sprocket to 61T
I have a carb, bike seems to have plenty of power, Andrews EV27 cam, Dyna 2000 Ignition, White Bros. pipes. I would think thar if Harley used the 61T pully on non domestic models ther should be no problem.
Also the 95-99 Harleys had a 2.93 ratio, using a 32 T Trans and 65T rear sprocket.

The belt might work, but it might take adjusting it to the end. If you are putting the stuff on yourself, you'll only lose a little time by trying it with the original belt. If it can't be adjusted, you've got a big job ahead of you pulling the swingarm, outer & inner primary, motor sprocket, alternator, clutch, etc.

I picked up the 93 and 94 1340 cc parts catalog at the Harley Dealer today. If the book is correct.... Under HD Internationl only it lists the 40012-90 128T REAR BELT FOR THE HDI AND E1994 AUSTRALIA SOFTTAIL MODELS E-94-ALL.
It also lists the 40236-88A reat 61T sprocket for the same bike. This is the same belt as is listed for the domestic 1994 softtail.
I ordered the 61T sprocket a few minutes ago (great price from a HD dealer $179.00).
I will post if it works or if it does not. If it does it beats spending $2700.00 for aa 6 speed Trany.

RE: changing out rear sprocket to 61T
Just got off the phone with Harley Davidson, project on hold.
Acording to them the 93/94 Parts Catalog for 1340 has some minor errors.
Before I go any further I have to actually do a count on the sprockets and
belt to see what I really have, then visit the local ABATE swap to see if I
can find what I need.
