RE: Trans dipstick
I have been thinking of buying an extra one and cutting the factory one off at the cap and using the extra one to check the oil level which I only do once a month maybe. I'm using redline shockproof heavy oil that looks like a strawberry margarita so if it leaks.....i'll know it. Otherwise it's a quart out and a new quart in.

Mine is nowhere near the clutch cable and is the 6 speed softail. Since I only check my oil at home I may just make up a second shop dipstick with a long bolt with a washer that contacts the case. Once the marks are put in, I'll cut the stick off the original and use it for a cap only. Simple, cheap and effective.

just had a warrenty work to have the tranny case replace do to a porous/leaky. The dealer just called me and said its ready for pick-up except when whey did the work they found the tranny dip stick had broken off[:-](ive never even once checked tranny fruid). I told them to leave the bolt in with out the dip stick and I would just use the new one as a gauge when checking it(got that from this forum). They kind of ignored this suggestion. wow ,,if its going to happen why am I always the one[:@]At least I was luckey it caused no damage. bike only has 8k onboard.

Wow, I'm surprised they admitted it to you. Of course the normal response from them is it never happens and you are the only one that they ever heard of this happening. What burns my *** is it can and does happen, obviously.Would it take so much effort to send the owners a letter to a potential problem with the dipstick? Cut mine off and made a separate shop dipstick if I need to check it.
