The only time I shift into first is from being parked. Pull in the clutch, count to 8-10, and it will shift into first so smooth you can barely feel it. And no noise at all. Otherwise it clanks into first like the hammer of Thor.

I’ve owned three M-8’s and this has been my experience.

Talking Frag out!

I wouldn't post this information as it would blow up the thread, But since this one's already been blown up......

Both my M8's CLUNKed loudly. After a few conversations with my local HD expert and M8 mentor, I've switched to AMSoil for all three holes (1st Frag Out). The other thing I've decided to change, is changing the transmission oil to 75/140 AMSoil gear lube (2nd Frag Out). The end product of these change, in both my M8's, are a reduction of the "clunk" when shifting from Neutral. The clunk is less, but not gone. I think to get rid of the clunk, you'd have to turn the motor off first.

Yes, to pre answer the questions, the clutch is adjusted correctly and has the proper amount free-play in the clutch lever. I like to keep the engagement zone in the middle of the lever travel or just past the middle during the release travel (1/2 to 5/8 turn out). Correct me of you don't agree.

You make your choices, roll the dice, and after 50,000 or 60,000 miles you find out if you chose wisely.

Know also, I ride in Florida where it's 100 degrees in the shade and humidity is measured in cups-per-mile.
