Well, to finish this out.
Disassembled clutch pack. Sure enough, there is some wear on the basket from the engine pulsation. When i moved the basket/clutch with belt off it was the exact sound I was hearing. I could get a new basket, but its apparently a very short lived fix.
I have just gotten used to the dry clutch noise at this point. Problem, no problem. Woot!.
