Default another clutch adjustment question

i have a 1991 electra glide. followed procedure to adjust clutch, but when i tried to loosen the locknut, the clutch basket moved and the nut would not come loose. is this normal? what should i do to keep the basket from moving? sorry if this is a dumb question, but i don't want to mess anything up. thanks in advance for your replies!

Put the bike in first gear and make sure your loosening the nut.

If you're sure you're turning the right way (as it's reverse: turn clockwise to loosen), then make sure the chain is held stationary. I put a screwdriver handle between the compensator nut end teeth and the chain, but they also make a tool to do this.
