Default tranny side door gasket help

03 fxdwg

can the side door gasket be replaced by removing the side cover, mainshaft & countershaft locknuts? or does the entire gearset ned to come out?

Just remove the cover and replace the gasket, using blue loctite on the bolts when you put them back in. Generally have to drop the exhaust to gain access to the tranny side cover. If you don't want to change the tranny fluid then you can put both wheels up on 2x4's and lean it way over on the jiffy stand and allow all of the fluid to go to the left of bike and you will only lose a drop or two.

finally got it off. took some searching before learning that the bearings are pressed onto the mainshaft and countershaft. that was the hardest part.
