Chugging sound from tranny

Chugging sound from tranny
I have a 1993 Electraglide classic i bought a couple of months back.
It runs great ,but from 1st to 4rth gear as I accelerate down the road I hear a sort of metallic kind of chugging sound that sounds like its coming from the tranny or possibly the primary area.
Once I shift into 5th gear, the noise is gone .
Anyone have any ideas.
