Default Clutch Cable Extender?

Hey all,

I adjusted my clutch this weekend and I noticed that my cable adjuster is pretty far apart. So I was thinking of installing one of those extenders (?) to lengthen the jacket to shorten the cable. I have no clue what it is called or where to get one. I saw one on here a couple times but cant find it.

Any help?

i would just invest is a new cable.
it would be far easier to shorten the cable if you can swedge a new pull end on the cable after you cut it, do handle bar side, that way if it fails, will be on the outside.

The cable is new. When I put on my bars, I put on a new cable. I just hate the length of the adjuster.

if you know that the cables fairly new and shouldn't be bad yet, have you tried checking the adjustment on the threw rod that goes from the clutch arm on the right side over to the clutch basket. If the locking nut backed off from the basket end of that it will have you loosing clutch pretty quick too. A little adjustment there will go a long way on the cable slack adjuster that's on the cable itself.

Edit. Read your reply that came while I was typing. I would wager that this may be your issue. If you do some digging on you tube for how to adjust the rod that would end smack dab in the middle of the clutch basket you may cure your problem. Its pretty straight forward and SEEING how its done I probably a lot more useful than trying to explain it in writing.

Jason,

The adjuster threaded section is pretty far apart. That's all. It works, just I hate threading it back and forth. Be nice to not have to twist the cable end so far. Hence why I want to shorten it up.

As for the videos, I could check it out and see if it helps. So check for harley clutch rod adjustment?

Yea, drive the adjuster IN on the clutch pack. That will take up the added slack you've now got in your cable adjuster.

JP is doing it the wrong way, You really want to screw it in till you feel / see the pressure plate move. After that back it off, note where it comes loose and do whatever turns you need from there.

Well, watched the video and two others. All pretty much say the same thing. Followed them all. Went to tighten the cable adjuster and it was getting somewhat close when I ran out of adjuster.....
