New 2008 Ultra's have IDS for drive line noise!

Looking at this pic here, would the cush drivebe placed next tothe wheel itself, then the sprocket over the cush drive, "stabbing" the sprocket protrusions into the cush drive, thenall bolted to the wheel? That's the only applicable way I can see this working to suppress the pulses..........same way as my previousGoldwing attempting to remember correctly......getting old yaknow.

This hasnt been mentioned but may be worth a try.The 07s have a new final drive belt and is tighter on the flhx, flhrs at 1/4th to 5/16ths deflection compared to flhr/c,flht/c/u and fltr which is 3/8ths to 7/16ths deflection.Maybe upping the free play when bike is hot or at least checking tension and seeing if limits hold true is worth a try.It may also give a hint if this new IDS has a chance with an 07s.

Exactly! And the sprocket will have it's own bearing to register with the axle. You ain't seen tight until you've inspected the rear drive belt on a warm XB series Buell. Even when cold, the Buell belt is so tight you can't get any deflection. The new cush drive isolates driveline forces from the rear wheel bearings, instead feeding it allthrough the lone pulley bearing.

Thanks for the reply Cynic.
Looking at the IDS and it's description of what it does and doesn't fit, I'm wondering if this will fit aftermarket wheels. It "should" because I used my factory pulley on my Hogpro 18" wheels using the factory spacers and all without a problem and I see nothing in the IDS package that may prevent this from working on the aforementioned wheels, just by merely looking at what is offered in the IDS package.[sm=ummmmokay.gif]
............no reason it shouldn't work.....eh?

wait till y'all get a load of the new trottle system, no more cables on the FL series, electronic, drive by wire as arrived !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NEW Electronic Throttle Control• New throttle grip sensor andinduction module• Sends rider input to ECMelectronically
• Eliminates throttle cables

Ok.........devil's advocate time.
Anyone think deep down inside HD made someINTERNAL changes in conjunction with this IDS for the '08's to rid the clatter and it's only a matter of time before the cat's outta the bag? What if HD is hoping no one will care if/when the truth comes out that indeed some internal improvements were performed and in HD's eyes it will no longer be a thorn intheir flesh like it seems? AND just to be "politically correct" they throw the '07 owners a bone and offer the IDS system as a fix?
I hate waiting.

This is thinking outside the box. What if the reason for 50 mpg is due to cylinder dropping out at cruise.Turning bike into thumper, one lunger, the auto industry has done this. The EPA and Al Gore would be happier and the IDS is to take the the pulse that a single cylinder would deliver?I hope for everyones sake this IDS works and is not another bandaid to get HD thru warranty period.

I just talked to the guys at Baker. They are wondering how the IDS will fix anything? the noise is in the tranny. They stated just a band-aid. They restated that with the F6F and a 30T final pulley you should ge about a 95% reduction in drive noise in chatter and clatter and 99 to 100% reduction in gear whine, no clutch walk, wider gears means less clutch dog noise due to more area for engagement.

Let's see now..........MOCO and dealers have said now for a year that all is well and the sound is normal. Then what is normal about making something that fixes something that is not wrong in the first place!!!!!!!!!! Now I wonder what will be "normal" for the 08!!!!!!! Let's see if we can't get these liars in the White House. Weapons of Mass Destruction and it's all a normal sound, yeah, now I get it!!!!!!!!!!!

Bert knows is field and what he says should work. The cost of his kit has been what has kept many from jumping on this.I would like to keep the final gear ratio. For my bike the clatter was most abnoxious in 6th.Now I just dont use it unless Im flying.Berts kit was designedfor the 5th gear whine initially, now it will cure the clatter and the whine as long as you change the final drive ratio. At a 1000 bucks plus gearing change for a problem that is for HD to honor?I dont think he will sell many.If the IDS works, those kits will be worthless. He may have been better off marketing heavier trap door,to stop the walk. The 5th gear whine usually fades w/mileage.
