Default Primary chain slack after baker attitude adjuster 2009 heritage

So I'm new to Harley all my bike experience is with sport bikes. I installed the attitude adjuster while doing my belt. 2009 heritage, And yes my chain was tight!! No noise but did see a little contact from the clutch hub/gear. So being auto adjuster factory the manual is no good. First I don't know if I'm at tightest chain point but my measurements seem to be close after rotating the engine. So if I just go up I have close to 5/8" (baker spec 5/8-7/8 and say favor the loose) if I push the chain down first I got an 1/8 . If I drop the plate 1 tooth it's over 7/8" . So I've had it running ,it' seems quiet? Should I open again and drop a click it seemed way too loose to me but as I said I'm a Harley rookie so any experienced advice would help. Wish we still had the window to adjust. Hate to cause damage when I was just in there to stop it.

i understand that aswell which is why I replaced the auto adjuster.?. My question Is it better to be just over the spec or at the tightest end of the spec..when changing out the auto adjuster.

Always opt for the loose side. When you spin the motor over (completely several times) you should be able to see where the tight spot is. Adjust it at this point. The 08's and 9's are prone to I.p.b. failure so you don't want it on the tight side. Mine went last summer so I lost the auto adjuster and also installed the baker unit. Mine also adjust to close to 7/8 ,if I move it a tooth its to tight. This could be from slight chain wear. I checked it a few weeks ago and its still where I set it last summer.
