I've got an "86 FXRS and the shaft seal on the shifter is leaking where it goes through the primary. Can I replace the seal from the outside or do I have to pull the primary cover? I've got a maintenance manual, but I haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

I'm eventually going to put forward controls on this bike, so the seal shouldn't be a problem after I do that....
