Ugly rattling noise. Maybe primary?
2017 M8 Road King purchased new by me a year ago, 4,700 miles. Since new ,no unexpected noises until the other day. Happened only at the 850 rpm idle, either in neutral or in gear with clutch pulled in I could occasionally hear whats best described as a rattling sound from the primary drive side of the motor.
Not near the top end by the rockers, and if you smoothed out the motor by bringing it up to 1,000 rpm it went away. Not engine speed like a lifter or anything but a random, inconsistent deep frequency rattling.
Happened just a few times over a two day period of riding, now its gone. Is it possible the primary stretched a little since new and that was the noise I was hearing ( the chain snatching with the odd pulses of the motor) and the compensator just needed a little more slack to click to the next tooth and take up that slack?
I know cam chain adjusters on the Metric bikes are ratcheting and if between teeth, the chain can be noisy till it goes to the next tooth.
