and I guess using the recommended lubricant is out of the question ??

Most motorcycle gearboxes are constant mesh style transmissions, as such yellow metal components are just too soft to be usable in this except as bushings. I cannot recall if there are brass bushings but I do not believe so. The gears, shafts and shift forks are all steel. The answer to your question is most likely not. Automotive gearboxes are typically sliding mesh transmissions and as such have splitter synchronizers that are usually made of brass or some other such soft metal.
