Default Changing Rear Pulley On 07 Bagger Question

My stock pulley is 1” wide and has 66 Teeth. I want to change my rear pulley to 68 Teeth so I need a Sportster pulley. I’m getting different info as to what year of Sportster is required. Some say any Sportster, some say 07 and up. If you’ve done the swap can you let me know which MY Sportster works?

Thanks, Jim

07 Ultra. I first switched to the IDS system with the 66T pulley. The IDS is a good modification. The 68T 2007 Japanese Sportster pulley is the one I have now. If you don't have IDS I believe the 2007 U.S. Sportster pulley is what you want.

You'll probably get a bigger response in the Touring section, where this has been discussed often over the years. IIRC by also changing the front pulley from 32T to 30T, along with using the 68T rear, you can continue to use your stock belt. I have changed overall gearing on my older Glide and found I had to change belt length when changing one pulley by two teeth.

Correct. Changing only the rear to a 68T the stock belt can still be used and move the wheel forward a bit. A 31T along with the 68T will put the wheel in approximately the stock position. The 30T will put the wheel a bit further back from stock but can still use the stock belt.

There are 2 different 68T pulleys. One with the IDS and one without. Just make sure you get the right one. Your 2007 would be without the IDS unless you add the IDS at this time. Many discussions on this in the touring section. Just search 68T.

I don't think Sportsters have iDS? Just want to know which year of Sportster pulley to get.

The part number should be easy to find on the touring section and just search 68T. Lots of threads on this.

It's the 68T 2007 Japanese Sportster pulley. I have it on my 2007 Ultra.
Initially I added IDS with a 66T pulley. Essentially the same as the 2008 touring bikes. Then I got the 68T Japanese Sportster pulley. All the IDS parts fit. Need to have the proper wheel bearing.

First I've heard about needing to be a Japanese model. Will do some more digging up.
