Exclamation Rear belt to chain conversion

Hey guys,

Im looking for pointers/advise, to convert my WIDE REAR 240 tire, well 260 now, 2008 harley rocker c, to chain drive,

also I changed ratio, I did the 70 pulley 30 tooth, inner sprocket mod, when going to chain, how do I maintain, or calculate this change? thanks

tom...

p.s. BEST kits/Conversions known?

This is company, and compensator replacement I ordered.... I already have the 70/30 mod done, this might be too much low end??? but when I go rear chain drive, suppose, if I stay with the rockers stock ratio should land the same?

pros/cons to going from belt to chain, I know as I go up in my engine I will have to o, since im in there now, figured id do for it all now?

According to the link you posted it would put your primary drive at 1.53:1 which is actually a very good primary ratio... However if you do a 30/70 secondary (which is belt) it puts your over all around 3.57:1. Chain equivalent is 22/51. This is way too much gearing for the street. If you want to go to chain a 22/48 would put you around 3.35:1 over all. Which would be much better for the street if your tire diameter is 25.90" A 3.37:1 is your target ratio....You can go to this link for gear ratio calculations....

70/30=2.33 so going to a chain say 52/22= 2.36 or a little taller 52/23= 2.26

I went with a Zippers kit and in less then 2k miles the 51 tooth rear sprocket teeth looked like waves in the ocean and ruined my chain. $250 down the drain. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT get an aluminum sprocket for the rear.

Zippers makes fine performance products, kits and accessories but with big C.I. engines and torque/horsepower applications in my S&S powered bikes ( or even H-D engines with engines and transmission modifications )I don't -or would never run aluminum sprockets with 530 O-ring or other types of chains ` especially anodized chains (which I prefer ) . I've seen quite a few sprocket failures in the aluminum versions . Yes they save a little bit of weight, but unless you've got a huge budget and change them after 2 or 3 runs.....go with a Steel Sprocket .

aluminum sprockets are only for racing where every ounce counts(motorcross especially) and i would never use one on a street bike. Hell even the little 250cc dualsport will eat up a aluminum sprocket within 2500 miles. Never use an aluminum front sprocket either.
