Morning
I have a 88 Electra Glide Classic that the clutch is slipping. 2 months ago I changed out the clutch plates. They were placed in oil for some time prior to installation. The clutch cable as been adjusted and readjusted several times. But riding around the clutch is still slipping. I am at a lost for what could be the cause. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did it work normally for some time after your rebuild?
I'd probably attempt rebuilding it, making sure spring and pressure plate are in right orientation and tightened up and torqued properly. Do you have a service manual? You could first bring those pieces to an indy shop or dealer you trust. Maybe they're fatigued or slightly bent somehow. Might as well replace the main radial ball bearing in the bore if you haven't already. Understand, I'm speaking in terms of having rebuilt my '05 softail transmission and clutch. Tried looking up '88 electraglide on Ronnie's Harley partsfinder website. No luck.

Welcome from Hampton Roads Virginia.
You say plates? Did you examine the pressure plate, and clutch hub closely for wear. An 88 is pretty old or are you referring to the engine?
What type spring does it have in the clutch?
The cable adjustment is just for free play to make sure it is not pulling against throwout bearing. The main adjustment is at the clutch.
Put a signature line similar to mine on your bike under user settings.

There's more to proper clutch adjustment than adjusting the cable. Check out the proper method of clutch adjustment in the stickies at the top of this forum. Causes for slipping:
- bad adjustment
- improper primary lube or level
- worn pressure diaphragm spring
- worn or burnt plates
But..
Form your description, I'm going with adjustment,
