Default Clutch Slipping After Installing S&S 551 Cam

I recently had the 551 cam installed to increase my torque. Well it must be working because I can feel the clutch slipping in certain situations. Has anyone else experienced this and what did they do to correct the issue.

I'm thinking this https://www.sscycle.com/products/ss-...twin-clutches/ or should I just go with a heavier spring?

That's funny, the same thing happen to me when I took it home after getting the same cams installed.

Did a clutch adjustment and seems better, couldn't get it to slip.

Maybe you need the Clutch adjusted? Unless if you have high miles on the clutch.

Clutch adjustment looks correct. The only time I noticed the clutch slipping was when I am riding two up and I accelerate harder than normal.

The 551 is a low end cam.. The clutch plate (VPC) needs RPMs to create clamping pressure. Since the 551 is not an RPM cam, go with the spring. The VPC won't help the clutch bold at lower RPMs.

I used this one: Barnett - 502-00-01004 - Clutch Spring: The alternative for the 37871-98A

Adding this (copied from another post)
I read a lot on the SE spring, if you only install that, people find that stop and go traffic is a work out...
37882-06 (258 Lbs Force) 2006-88”, 2007 thru 2010-96”
37871-04 (298 Lbs Force) 2004-05 88” and 2010 Limited
37871-98A (320 Lbs F) 1998-2003
37807-03 (364 Lbs F) 2007 thru 2010-103 ”Police"
37951-98 (386 Lbs F) Current SE

Looks like your bike uses 37871-04 (298 Lbs)

I think the Barnett light spring is the same as the 37871-98A (320 Lbs F) 1998-2003. It might work I use this stock early spring in a 07 FLHTC that's been built to a 103 but use a Barnett Kevlar clutch frictions. It works well. I wouldn't use the Barnett heavy as it's 480 lbs (Tested and use in another bike)..

I would scuff up the steels with a little 80-100 grit while in there as they can glaze over.. If you got access to a bead blaster use it..

I was having an issue with clutch chatter starting out. IMHO, 255 Cams and weight of the TriGlide were too much for OEM clutch. Replaced clutch and spring with SE. Works well now.
