Starter went bad so I replaced it today. Tested with primary cover off and all was good. Put the cover back on and all I'm getting is a spinning noise. Any ideas?

 

Not assembled right..

 

what year, model.....try loosening mounting bolts and jiggle starter to center it...

 

Did you fold the safety tab over on the jackshaft bolt?

 

The other question would be "is the jack shaft coupling in the right way?".. IIRC the snap ring goes toward the starter. Also make sure that the bolt is tightened correctly.. Not too tight..

How did you determine the original starter was bad?

Hope you didn`t get rid of it, because more than likely it is fine...
