Default Primary Drive Locking Tool

I finally decided to replace my crappy SE Compensator with a Baker Compensator. The Harley Service manual shows using a "Primary Drive Locking Tool", as in the attached photo.

Is this really necessary?
If so, did you use the official HD tool or something else?

Looking forward to clunk free starting out.

Yes. The plastic one they use to recommend must have caused problems. Mine is delrin and works fine however. And if you do not have a heavy duty impact, you need someone to hold bike when you break it loose ( guess maybe not with a trike however). This operation required some heavy duty tools. I use 3/4 drive stuff. The proper loctite with primer and above average skill level. (just my opinion)

Sure the Baker expert will chime in here shortly. He's a expert for sure...

Cut a piece of 1x2 the right length, as shown in #2 in the pic, and jam it between the clutch and comp sprockets. One direction to tighten, other direction to loosen.

Watch at 5:00 in this vid:

On certain models the factory service manual warns not to use the nylon step type locking tool.

You can get a locking bar from Georges garage tools for about 25 bucks.

The Delrin block can twist the crank.. HD stopped using them..

I make those bars out of 6061-T6 1x1/4xsome length. Just chop the bar off square..

Here is one under $20 delivered to your home.
I picked up one of these from Amazon.com. Worked great and was fairly inexpensive compared to some of the other tool prices I saw
